About NameCombinery — The Story Behind Our Name Combining Tools
Learn about NameCombinery.com, a free online toolkit for couple name combining, baby name blending, word merging, and Wingdings translation. Our mission, method, and people.
About NameCombinery
NameCombinery began with a small, slightly silly problem: two people trying to pick a name for a shared social media account and getting nowhere for the better part of an evening. Every combination sounded wrong. Half of them were unpronounceable. The rest were already taken. What should have taken five minutes turned into a long, frustrating scroll through websites cluttered with pop-ups and tools that simply glued two words together and called it a day.
That evening turned into a question worth answering: why is something this simple this annoying to do well?
NameCombinery is our answer. It is a free, no-signup collection of name and text tools built around one idea — a good combined name should sound like something a person would actually say out loud. Not a random mashup. Not two halves taped together. Something with rhythm.
What We Build
Our toolkit is deliberately small. We would rather run four tools properly than forty carelessly.
Couple Name Combiner — Blends two partner names into shipping names, joint account handles, wedding hashtags, and pet names. It considers syllable breaks and sound flow rather than just chopping each name in half, so the results are usable instead of merely technically correct.
Baby Name Combiner — Merges two names — often the parents’, or a pair of names a family cannot choose between — into fresh name ideas. Parents frequently use it to honour two grandparents at once, or to find middle ground when nobody can agree. It is an idea generator, not a naming authority, and we are careful about that distinction.
Word Combiner — Built for brand names, domain hunting, startup names, gamer tags, and usernames. Feed it two or more words and it produces portmanteaus, blends, and compound forms you can test for availability elsewhere.
Wingdings Translator — Converts plain English into Wingdings symbols and back again. Popular with designers checking how a symbol set renders, students decoding a document that opened in the wrong font, and anyone who wants to write a message in tiny pictures for fun.
How We Approach It
Three commitments shape everything on this site.
No barriers. No accounts, no email walls, no “unlock more results” upgrade prompts. You arrive, you type, you get results. That is the entire flow.
Your input stays yours. The names you enter are the names of real people — partners, children, family members. We treat that seriously. Our combining tools process what you type and return results without building a profile around you or selling what you typed to anyone. Our full approach is documented in our Privacy Policy.
Honest results. If a name pairing produces awkward output, we show the awkward output. Padding a results page with dozens of near-identical variations to look impressive wastes your time, and you would spot it immediately anyway.
Who Uses NameCombinery
Couples building a wedding hashtag. Expecting parents narrowing a shortlist. Founders trying to find a brand name that has not already been registered a hundred times. Streamers and gamers hunting for a handle. Designers troubleshooting a symbol font. Students who received a document that turned into gibberish. Different needs, one shared frustration — and the tools here exist to remove it.
Keeping the Lights On
NameCombinery is free to use and is supported by advertising, primarily through Google AdSense. Advertising is what pays for hosting, maintenance, and the time spent improving our combination logic. We keep ad placements out of the way of the tools themselves. A site that hides its own functionality behind a wall of banners is not a site worth returning to, and we would rather you came back.
Talk To Us
We read the messages that come in. Suggestions for tools, awkward output you think we should fix, bugs, partnership questions — all of it is welcome through our Contact Us page.
Thanks for using NameCombinery.
